Here is the first official movie poster for the upcoming Dredd movie. As we close in on September 21st, when Dredd is scheduled to be released, the divide between the 2012 film and 1995’s lamentable Stallone vehicle movie Judge Dredd is hopefully going to become even more distinct. The darker tone of the film is definitely more in line with what 2000 AD has been presenting comic book fans with since the character was appeared in the second issue of the sci-fi anthology.
The poster comes via joblo.com and also contains a salient quote from John Wagner, one of the three individuals credited with creating Judge Dredd. He says that this “is Dredd as it should be done – true to character, visceral, unrelentingly violent (but not off-puttingly so).” Which, as an endorsement, is pretty much all Judge Dredd fans should need to hear. There are more quotes from Wagner, as well as some stills from the film available here, but we just wanted to show you the poster below.
Yes, this featured minimal design, but serves as an ominous introduction to the character, and really doesn’t give away too much. This September should be interesting.
